# A spreadsheet in. A useful App out.

Open Apps in Workspace and describe the workflow your spreadsheet supports. Supply a small sample, name the fields and actions you need, and test the private preview before deciding to share or publish.

## What you are working toward

A private tracker or dashboard you can test with your own workflow.

## Start with

- A small sample dataset with understandable column names

- The people who will use the App

- The main actions, filters, and success criteria

## Describe the workflow behind the spreadsheet

Explain who uses the data and what they need to do. A project tracker might need an owner filter and overdue list; a supplier comparison might need side-by-side criteria. Start with one workflow and a small sample rather than importing every spreadsheet you have.

Use fictional or sanitized data for the first build. State what each field means, which values are allowed, and whether a blank cell is unknown, not applicable, or zero.

## Test behavior as well as appearance

Open the preview and try the main actions on a large and a small screen. Check counts against the source, clear and reapply filters, and try empty or incomplete records. A convincing screenshot alone does not establish that the App works.

Review requirement checks and ask for precise fixes: a missing filter, a confusing label, or an incorrect calculation. Check the updated preview and saved build history before choosing the version to use.

## Choose how the result is accessed

Creating or previewing an App does not publish it. Private sharing requires recipients to sign in; publication creates a public link. Review the data and access behavior before choosing either path.

This is a starting workflow for a focused work tool. Do not assume that an initial preview includes a production database, live spreadsheet synchronization, or every feature needed for a larger application. Make those requirements explicit and verify the result.

## Try this prompt

Copy into Apps. Opening Workspace does not send it automatically.

```text
Build a private operations dashboard from the sample data in this Project. Show open items, owners, status counts, and a filterable table. Display when the source was updated. Treat missing due dates as unknown. Keep the first version private. Show me the preview and the requirement checks before sharing.
```

## Common questions

### Can I build an App from a spreadsheet or idea?

Yes. Open Apps and describe the user, inputs, and actions you need. Start with sample data, inspect the private preview, try the main actions on large and small screens, and ask for changes before sharing or publishing.

### Are Apps and files public as soon as I create them?

Creating or previewing an App does not publish it. Private sharing requires recipients to sign in. Publish only when you want a public link, and review the data included in the result. Manage private sharing in Shared.
