Perplexity Research is a research mode; Projects retain ongoing context; Computer handles broader execution. The official URL historically used for Spaces now documents Projects, so older articles may use a different name.

Perplexity documents report generation and export in Research, and file, App, connected-tool, and recurring capabilities through Computer. A comparison that says Perplexity only answers questions would miss those features. Here, the distinction is how you organize, check, and maintain the work rather than whether either platform can generate a report.

Define evidence quality before asking for an answer

For a product decision, prefer the document that describes the exact capability over a general landing page. Record the plan, configuration, or platform required. A source about an enterprise feature should not establish that the same feature exists on a personal account.

Specify how old an acceptable source can be and which claims need a fresh check. A basic definition may be stable, while pricing, supported connections, and sharing behavior can change quickly. If two official documents disagree, preserve the conflict and identify what must be verified in the actual account.

Use an evidence table with the question, source URL, relevant section, supported claim, and remaining uncertainty. A large bibliography is not enough: the reviewer should be able to follow one row and determine why it changes the decision. Treat a source that repeats another company’s claim differently from that company’s own documentation.

Run a constrained research brief in both products

Use a fictional team deciding how to collect, summarize, and review customer feedback. Supply a requirements file with three mandatory conditions: reviewers must see original comments, uncertain categories must remain visible, and nothing is sent to customers automatically. Set the same research scope and stop condition in both products.

Audit the result with a small, repeatable sample

Check every mandatory requirement and one favorable and unfavorable claim per option. Open the cited pages. Fail a claim when its source does not support the wording, a plan restriction disappeared, or a planned feature became a current capability.

Remove one required source and request an update. The output should identify what is no longer verified and how uncertainty affects the decision, even if that revises an earlier conclusion.

Count incorrect claims, unsupported claims, missing qualifications, broken references, and manual repairs separately. A supported negative finding can be more useful than an unverifiable recommendation. These results measure your sample; they do not establish a universal product ranking.

Separate a saved report from ongoing execution

A decision brief may be enough. If you need a weekly update, define which changes matter, where the revised output goes, and when you want a notification. Both Clanker and Perplexity document recurring work, but the initial research conversation is not proof that a schedule has been configured correctly.

For connected or local work, inspect the active boundary. Perplexity’s desktop documentation distinguishes local folders and enabled desktop capabilities from a web Project. Clanker similarly requires an explicit computer connection for local files and apps. Test the needed source in the actual environment before relying on an unattended run.

Choose where the research becomes useful work

Choose Perplexity when its source discovery, research flow, and available Projects or Computer capabilities produce a brief your reviewers can inspect with little repair. If your work already lives there, include the cost of moving source context in the decision.

Choose Clanker when you want to develop the research into a reusable review Agent, a maintained Project file set, a private App, or a recurring worker using its existing surfaces. Test the next deliverable independently; a cited report does not establish that a generated App handles data correctly.

If both meet the evidence standard, compare representative usage and the time needed to update the result. Record which source versions you used and set a review date for changeable claims. The most useful outcome is a decision process your team can repeat when the facts change.
